Carent Support

Finding a carer support group

Caring can be isolating and connecting with others who understand what you are going through can be invaluable. A wide range of carer support groups and communities exist virtually and in person

Finding community – connecting with other carents

Being a carent can be a unique and intense experience, with multiple and  wide ranging  practical and emotional challenges . It can be difficult for those who have not been a carent to fully understand all that it entails.

Carenting can also be time consuming, and juggling multiple demands on your time can leave you with  little time to socialise, engage or connect with others.

Research and surveys repeatedly find that carers often feel lonely and isolated and find it difficult to connect with others in similar roles.

Increasingly, carers groups are sprouting up to meet this gap in support

If you are not on Facebook, then other communities exist on other digital channels such as Instagram,  LinkedIn, TikTok, Bluesky and X.  These accounts will enable you to find, follow and connect with other carents facing similar challenges.

Useful hashtags to help you track down relevant communities include #carents #unpaidcarers #elderlyparents #dementiadaughter

Local support groups

If you prefer to meet other carers in person then your local council, GP surgery, church or community groups will be able to advise you of the options available.  Some of these groups can provide a safe and supportive space for people living with dementia and their carers so it’s well worth finding out what groups are available in your neighbourhood.
